are liked by most of the people. They are the flowers of the
summer and the spring season. Scientifically the carnations are
known by the name Dianthus caryophyllus. Carnations can survive
even for weeks when placed in a vase in corner of your room.
Usually people plant the carnations as hedge flowers in their
garden and they don’t require much care. They can bring a new
life in your dull rooms. Carnation
flowers are also presented to lovers and friends.
Let us now discuss the history of carnations:
Carnations are historically very rich and meaningful. They are
common from the ancient Greek and Roman mythology times. They
are mythologically very special for Christians and thus they
are very common in Virgin Mary paintings. It is also very
common among the French aristocrats as they used to tuck it in
their buttonhole when going for the guillotine. It is a
mother’s Day flower and is very common among the friends and
lovers.
Different types of carnations flowers with their
special meanings:
Carnations express your feelings. If you want to say someone
that you will never forget him or her then give a pink
carnation to that person. The yellow carnations have completely
different meaning from their color. These bright & sunny
flowers symbolize disappointment. Red carnations are symbol of
love. The white carnations are as usual for peace &
harmony. On the other hands the purple one are for peculiar
feelings. If you want to say yes to someone then give solid
colored carnations while striped colors for negative response.
Carnations can be used for the following
purposes:
The carnation baskets are very popular for the gift purposes.
Various events, parties, occasions like birthdays, weddings,
graduations, welcome, promotions, Mother’s Day, anniversaries,
funerals, etc. Even in aroma products and scented candles,
carnation flowers are used due to their sweet essence.
Different ways of growing carnations:

Indoor potted carnations—it is not very cumbersome to grow
a carnation through seeds. Plant a carnation in a large pot
that has holes on the pot’s base for water seepage. Seeds
should be planted at a depth of ¼ inch and should be
covered with a high quality soil. Then water the seeds
carefully that they don’t wash away. The pot must be placed
where it can get direct sunlight.

Outdoor carnations—there are basically two varieties of
carnation flowers i.e. perennials that come
back after a year while second type is annuals that last in
one season. You can plant carnations directly in your
garden or first in a pot and then shifting it to the
garden. This is done in order to save them from frost.
Carnations are usually found in many rock gardens or slope
areas.
